Daniel Beckett was born on Mars in 2318, his parents names were Ulysses and Jennifer and he has three siblings. Two brothers named David and Ian, and one sister named Margaret. Daniel lived a quiet life on Mars, but always seeking a life of adventure. That was the core reason he ultimately decided to join Starfleet and was successfully admitted in 2317, leaving for the academy the following year. In 2340 he graduated and was assigned to the USS Rutledge.

Shortly after being assigned to the Rutledge, Daniel met his current wife Rebecca. Together they had four children who are all adults now. Anthony, Garrett, Rose, and Ulysses. Daniel also has many grandchildren with one of his granddaughters expecting her first child very soon.

The Rutledge was near the end of her life cycle, an Excelsior-class starship, she'd seen service since the twenty-third century. Daniel saw the last two years of the ship's life as it patrolled around the Klingon border and near the Romulan Neutral Zone. Nothing of major note happened during his early career. In 2342 the Rutledge was decommissioned and the crew transferred to another ship. Daniel took the position of Assistant Chief of Tactical and Security on board the USS Fjord that year.

A good portion of Daniel's early career was spent aboard the USS Fjord, a Nebula-class starship. For three years he served as the Deputy Head of Tactical and Security before an untimely crew transfer left him in the department head position. The assignment change came three months later as did the promotion to Lieutenant. An incident between the Klingons and Romulans in 2348 would result in his promotion to the rank of Lieutenant Commander.

In 2354 Daniel was selected to transfer to command after successfully completing command level officer training. He was promoted to the rank of Commander and boarded the USS Ares in the same year. Four years later the Captain of the USS Ares was killed during a skirmish with a Cardassian warship and Daniel was field promoted to the position of Commanding Officer. Two months later and he was officially given the rank of Captain.

Daniel remained on board for another two years, proving himself a capable Commander, before being transferred to the USS Galaxy as the ship's Commanding Officer. For the next nine years Daniel remained on board the Galaxy leading a variety of missions across the Federation and a six month deep space assignment to the galactic south. His abilities as a Commander were impressive and as such he was given his first flag rank in 2369. Daniel served as a Task Force Executive Officer through the Dominion War.

At the end of the Dominion War and due to shortages across Starfleet he was promoted to Rear Admiral and given command over the task force that he was assigned to. The downhill slide of Daniel's career had began by this point. In 2385 after serving for ten years as a Task Force Commander he was promoted to Vice Admiral and made the Commanding Officer of the fleet that oversaw operations in the Federation Core.
